This week: Queens of the Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age: Villains [Matador, 25/08/2017]

Even the marching-into-battle opening of the opener didn’t thwart the Mark Ronson influence of the first two tracks, a side in which Josh Homme and band attempt to infiltrate the dance munchkins of now and simultaneously hang tight to their “edge” of now (and yesteryear). Both were easily accomplished early on in this fuzzy set of dancetopia, an intense grilling/analysis of the vagaries of life, and of the dance floor: “Life is hard, that’s why no one survives”, “Stand in the gutter/My head’s in the clouds/Feet don’t fail me now/I just gotta move on”. And keep moving they did with that former statement, not the latter. (6/10)
